March, 2016: LET IT ALL HANG OUT!
Drummer lays on the landing of the stairway with his tongue hanging out.
He's not half dead, but just relaxed. He has recently been diagnosed with Wobbler's Syndrome - a pinched nerve in his neck which causes him intermittent pain - which is currently controlled by an anti-inflamatory medication.

December 21, 2015: BAD DOG!
Drummer stole a Christmas cookie off the kitchen counter while we were downstairs watching TV. Then he had urgent diarrhea at 2am and 3am. None of us got much sleep last night. This also happened a month ago when he stole a small loaf of bread off the kitchen counter. He is obviously allergic to wheat - which is one of the reasons we've had so many problems with his diet. He is currently weighing in at 140 pounds.

Drummer, the Messy Eater
I've never had a dog that is as messy an eater as Drummer. He eats with his mouth open, and his head swinging from side to side, throwing his kibble (and water) everywhere. We've had to buy a special broom just to sweep up after his meals!

June, 2014: Drummer on the brink
Drummer has had ongoing multiple health issues for the past seven months - the most difficult has been diarrhea if he is not on an antibiotic. Out of desperation to solve the problem we considered having him go back to the breeder for an extended, possibly indefinite period of time. In the end we couldn't do it. On the same day I was going to drive him up to Steamboat, and had an email with directions, we changed course. He now seems to be doing much better on a new dog food, and we'll see if he stays stable as I wean him off his antibiotic. As a last hurrah we took him up to Evergreen to his favorite off-leash trails at Elk Meadow Park. He was so great, sticking right to us without a leash, and being such a good boy it helped to change our minds about what to do.
We subsequently found that switching him to a different dog food solved the problem, although a year later we had to switch him again as he apparently developed an allergy to the first food we switched him to.

September, 2013: With Brother
Drummer loves his brother, Brogan. He gets so excited when he gets to stay with him (while Mike is out of town). This was taken by Brogan's owner, Andrew - and it was not set up. Can you tell which is Drummer?
Wendy came by the office to drop off Drummer's water bottle. Drummer was all enthusiastic to see her, but then kept looking out the window: "Where is Brogan?"

December 2012

Drummer has become a lapdog, more needy that other hounds we've had. Here he is with Caleb, one of the regulars he sponges pets off of.
Drummer was a very sick boy this week. He got an abscess on his rump. He also lost eight pounds. The vet drained 12 oz. of fluid from his rump, and he was on an IV to hydrate him for two days. Total vet bill: $900.
After five days of antibiotics he is back to his old self, chomping at the bit to get off the leash and run again.

Drummer Makes the Calendar
Drummer is excited by his being selected "Mr. December, 2013" on the new Stapleton Dog Calendar.
The photo selected was when he was five months old.
He was one of 200 entrants for the twelve select spots.
